Three papers opened their doors on a cool but sunny spring day in Thistleville. CW McGregor, Angela Loungechair, and Charles Duckford sat at their respective chief editor’s desks at the three papers. The rush to get their papers out for the long, Thistleville dam-day weekend, was on. On Friday, neither CW McGregor nor Angela Loungechair could populate a whole paper because of underinvestment in the newsroom. White space dominated the front page and readers were perturbed by the blank-ness. CW hired 3 news beavers to take up the slack. The three promptly slapped each other’s tails and scandalous gossip about the state of CW’s newsroom was the talk of the town by Saturday morning. ...

April 2026

The crew of 3 rascals were sent out to investigate the murder of a septegenarian English General on behalf of Mr. Holmes. The case was called: The Tin Soldier. The crew was not phased the red herring motives of money, or diamonds so they set quickly to work investigating the obvious motive: broken hearts and a lover’s scandal. Early interviews proved immediately fruitful, every lead was a good one, and quite quickly they had the name of the culprit and the motive locked down in record time. Thankfully, there was no math required and the tauntine remains unblemished, unlike the good general’s heart which was both broken by a French woman and also pierced with a French sword. Ouch! ...

March 2026

After decades (at least 4 months) under Assyrian rule (of the fridge), the Corinthian Dominion saw itself again in the winner’s circle of a game of 7 Wonders Duel. The Dominion came with a bold strategy to pretend to do what the Legacy expected, invest in the sciences, then boldly switch into military pressure. The feint worked and the Legacy spent several of their early turns blocking the sciences at the expense of their own development. When the Dominion pivoted to military and resource development they were able to take a commanding lead and stole much of the Legacy’s early-game wealth. ...

February 2026

What does it take for the little people to get ahead? The answer this month was clever strategy, a military-industrial complex that ignores them, and at least one leather backpack. That’s right. For the first time, Charlie Dash has guided the forest to a system where the Woodland Alliance (the littlest guys) could not be ignored by scoring 30 points. The early game saw the expansionist birds, led by Alphonse Lichtenberg III, leave their heriditory roost like they’d been kicked out by the Queen. They found out early what happens when viziers can’t do what they’ve been assigned and twice they fell into turmoil. Even so, they established a half-dozen roosts and had an impressive display of avian might with a powerful army that took the battle to the Marquis. ...

Alphonse Lichtenberg III wins an epic game of Root by a sneaky misdirection amid bird-y turmoil. Alphonse Lichtenberg III once again took the role as head of the Eyrie Dynasty. Crabapple Westlake took the reins for the entrenched powers of the Marquise. While Charlie Dash acted as rouser-in-chief for the Woodland Alliance rabble. The early game saw Commander Westlake try to contain the Eyrie to the southeast corner. The gambit failed and the Eyrie quickly built roosts throughout the middle of the map. This ambitious expansion turned out to be an overreach. Not long after the roosts were built, the despot in charge was overthrown and the government of the Eyrie was sent into turmoil. The turmoil led to the Eyrie adjusting their goals to only ruling the clearings they considered worthy of their rule thus ignoring any penalties from government in turmoil. “Let the rest of the forest rot for all I care”, the new leader preached. ...

Amelia Lungheart and Chuck Douglas again took to the skies for their first flight into the busy London airport of Heathrow. Chuck showed some reckless stick-work throwing the plane from tilt to tilt while Captain Lungheart stayed calm, made coffee, and did the co-pilot’s job for him by clearing the air in front of them. The news and his bosses will still give him most of the credit. He again harassed the British air traffic control after the plane had landed exclaiming: “bangers?! I barely even know-ers!” He is up for his second demotion in two flights as a result. ...

November 2025

Three first-time, wanna-be forest rulers sat down at the table. They were initially befuddled by sentences like “Birds Are Wild. You can always treat a bird card as a card of another suit”… “WTF is a bird card?!” one wanna-be lamented. Eventually, it dawned on all of them that they were playing three different games and that maybe at least one of them should have paid attention in Civics 201: Ruling a Forest in 2025. ...

Amelia Lungheart and Chuck Douglas took to the skies and then took to the ground by practicing their first landings ever over the weekend. They landed successfully twice at YUL much to the delight of the passengers (Only one of whom had food poisoning from eating the fish). The pilot, Lungheart, took the unusual approach of ensuring there was a fresh pot at all time despite that being the copilot’s job. The copilot, Douglas, managed the flaps and then flapped his gums at the air traffic control tower needlessly. He’s up for demotion in the Spring. ...

Two twitchy twitchers spent the afternoon crafting two habitats to attact flocks of birds of all shapes and sizes. Albatross Lovebird approached the task with a steady strategy a bird in every biome and an egg in every nest. She dominated the bird count and her nector collection was nect-level. Cormorant Duckford’s last minte switch to a waterfowl-centric stragety went fowl and he drowned in cards without eggs, nests, or goals to speak of. In spite of Albatross Lovebird’s lack of accomplished goals, she came out on top. Duckford’s goose was cooked by over 20 points. ...
